The Bayelsa State government on Sunday announced
that a World Fashion Organisation (WFO) has named
the proposed World Fashion University which is to be
built in state after President Goodluck Jonathan.
Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the Chief Press Secretary to
Governor Seriake Dickson, who made this known in a
statement issued in Yenagoa, the state capital said, the
decision was in recognition of the president's achievements
so far despite the security challenges facing the country.
According to the Nation, the statement revealed that the
organisation made the revelation at the closing ceremony
and Gala Night of the Africa Fashion Reception, which was
held at the Banquet Hall of Government House.
It said that the Goodluck Jonathan World Fashion University
will be equipped with a research centre, amphitheatre,
faculty of social sciences, conference centre, textile plant
building and sports complex, among other facilities.
The president, who was represented at the occasion by
Chief Edem Duke, the Minister of Culture, Tourism and
National Orientation, thanked the organisation for the
honour.
President Jonathan noted that Africa has produced notable
designers in the creative industry and must be given its
pride of place in the world.
The president also disclosed that the industry had
contributed 40 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product
(GDP) across the continent.
