presiding over a meeting of the Council of
State with other top officials at the Presidential
Villa, Abuja.
The meeting started at about 11:40am and now is in
progress. Vice President Namadi Sambo; President of the
Senate, David Mark; Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; former President
Olusegun Obasanjo, former President Shehu Shagari and
former Head of the Interim National Government, Ernest
Shonekan, are precent at the meeting.
Others are former military Heads of State, Yakubu
Gowon; Abdusalam Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida as
well as some former Chief Justices of Nigeria and state
governors.
Service Chiefs including the Inspector-General of Police,
Muhammed Abubakar are waiting in the tea room of the
Council Chamber venue of the meeting to brief them on
security situation in the country.
Embattled Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako,
is making a surprise appearance at the meeting.
Nyako is currently in the eye of the storm as the state
House of Assembly has commenced impeachment
process against him and his deputy, James Ngilari.
The meeting is still ongoing at the time of filing this
report.
