A 29-year-old suspected armourer for robbers, Rasak Adeyinka, has told police in Ogun State that he earned N40,000 each time he kept the guns.
The suspect was apprehended at his hideout at Owode in Yewa South Local Government Area of the state recently.
The state Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, said the suspects belonged to a gang of armed robbers who carried out serial attacks on prominent persons in the state between 2013 and 2014.
According to him, among the operations carried out by the robbers was the attack on the retired Primate of Anglican Church, an indigene of the state, Rev. Peter Jasper Akinola, at Aro area of Abeokuta, the state capita
He said: "The gang also attacked the rector, Dauda Adegbenro Information Communications Technology (ICT) Polytechnic at Papalanto area."
In the attack, the driver of the rector, one Musibau, was killed while the bursar, who was in the rector's vehicle, sustained bullet wounds. Only the rector was said to have escaped unhurt, while his Toyota Hilux vehicle was snatched by the robbers. Adejobi added that when the robbers could not drive the vehicle due to a mechanical fault, they set it ablaze.
The same gang, he said, was responsible for the attack on former ace footballer, Chief Segun Odegbami, who was attacked at Wasimi area of Abeokuta in September 2014.
The robbers also snatched Odegbami's vehicle. According to the PPRO, the same gang killed a businesswoman and made away with her money while her three-month-old daughter was spared.
