Nyako Impeachment Sponsored By External Forces – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North-East has faulted the planned impeachment of the Adamawa State Governor, Admiral
Murtala Nyako (rtd), saying the process is sponsored.

The National Vice Chairman of the party in the North-East zone, Babachir Lawal, who made this known while addressing a news
conference in Abuja yesterday, after an emergency
caucus meeting of the party, said the attempt by
members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly to
impeach Nyako was an illegal act being backed by the
state Acting Chief Judge, Ambrose Mammadi.

The party expressed misgivings that the impeachment
proceedings against the governor was being sponsored
from outside the state with the sole aim of reducing the
number of states controlled by the APC.

"We have discussed extensively what is happening in
Adamawa State and condemned vehemently the breach
of procedure in the impeachment process.

"We condemned in totality, this illegality that is being
perpetrated in Adamawa State. The consequence of
which we know will lead to further arrest in our
community. We believe it is sponsored from outside to
cause disunity in our state. While the hand is that of
Esau, the voice is that of Jacob.

"We call on the President to call his attack dogs off and
let our state live in peace", Lawal said.
On the security situation in Maiduguri, the APC chieftain
said the closure of the Maiduguri Airport has placed the
people of the state and the entire region in danger
forcing them to travel by road, thereby, exposing them
to danger in the hands of insurgents and called for the
immediate re-opening of the Maiduguri International
Airport.

Meanwhile, the seven-member investigative panel
constituted by Justice Mammadi has invited Gov. Nyako
and his deputy, Bala Ngilari, to appear before it to
answer allegations of gross misconduct levied against
them by the assembly tomorrow, Friday.
