National Conference: Ex-Senator Replaces Late Akunyili

Chairman of the National Conference, Justice Idris Kutigi
on Wednesday admitted a former Senator, Mr. Alphonsus
Igbeke, as a substitute for the late former Director
General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs
Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and former
Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora
Akunyili.

The Senator, who replaces the late Akunyili as a delegate from
Anambra State, was earlier seen by journalists on
Tuesday when he came to complete his documentation
at the Conference Secretariat, Abuja.

Senator Igbeke later confirmed that he had come to
replace Akunyili at the confab.

Anambra's slot at the conference, which is nearing its
end, was reduced by one delegate following the demise
of Akunyili on June 7, in an Indian Specialist Hospital.
She was the third delegate to have died since the
inauguration of the confab by President Goodluck
Jonathan on March 17, 2014.
