Adamawa State acting governor Ahmadu Fintiri defeated other aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary.
Thus beating his opponents with 624 votes during Saturday election in Yola, Fintiri becomes PDP candidate for the October 11 governorship election in the state, Premium Times reports.
In the first top-3 the voted distributed as follows :
1. Ahmadu Fintiri – 624 votes;
2. The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Ahmed Modibbo – 197 votes;
3. Ex Military Administrator of Lagos State, Brig-Gen. Buba Marwa - 54 votes
Victory of the acting governor was foreseeable after the 8 aspirants, who had withdrawn from the primary election, declared support for him. These aspirants, including Nuhu Ribadu, had previously said they supported Fintiri after he agreed not to contest the primaries of the party for the February 2015 governorship election.
The Nation reports with reference to its source that the poll was conducted without violations:
A source said: "The poll was free and fair. The power of incumbency worked for Fintiri who had secured the loyalty and support of statutory delegates like local government chairmen, councillors, and other political appointees. Also before the poll, a former Political Adviser to the President, Ahmed Gulak, stepped down for Fintiri, making up to four aspirants conceding the slot to the Acting Governor."
