The high heel race is staged in the Spanish capital's gay quarter of
Chueca every year, attracting flamboyant competitors
and cheering crowds.
Competitors must wear at least 15-centimetre heels and
if they qualify for the final then wigs and lipstick are also
required.
A 500-euro ($666) prize is up for grabs, as well as plenty
of business for local physiotherapists fixing rolled ankles.
