The Niger State government has stated that the attack on Governor Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu by the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a ploy to smear his (governor) name to gain cheap popularity.
The government described the opposition party as a group of people only interested in blackmailing the state government to portray Governor Aliyu in bad light.
The chief press secretary to the governor, Mr Israel Ayegba Ebije, made this known in a statement he signed and issued yesterday in Minna, the state capital.
The governor urged people of the state to discountenance the puerile reasoning of the opposition, Insisting that the attack was aimed at smearing the state government to score cheap political points.
The spokesman, who was reacting to a statement purportedly credited to the state APC which accused the governor of bleeding the state by appointing special advisers unnecessarily, said Gov. Aliyu was quoted out of context.
Ebije added that Governor Aliyu's position on some of his special advisers not doing their bit was only an attempt at encouraging the newly sworn-in advisers to sustain service delivery.
He added that only two advisers have returned since the immediate past cabinet reshuffle, saying the governor has removed the unproductive advisers and that the opposition spokesman only spoke without taking cognisance of actual facts on ground.
