Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in Nasarawa State have vowed to resist any attempt to stop the impeachment process of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
They were reacting to reports that the presidency may have waded in to save Al-Makura following a meeting between principal officers of the Nasarawa House of Assembly, led by the Speaker and President Goodluck Jonathan last week in Abuja.
The caucus, which met at the weekend, assured the state legislators of their support towards the impeachment proceedings against the governor.
The PDP-dominated Assembly leveled 16 impeachable offences against Gov. Al-Makura and directed the State Chief Judge to constitute a seven-member panel to probe the allegations against him.
In a communique signed by 43 party leaders, including Information Minister, Labaran Maku and issued at the end of their meeting, the caucus said "The degree of external influence to scuttle this laudable process must and will be resisted by the PDP family in the state".
The communique also urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze the accounts of the state government since the impeachment process is hinged on financial misappropriation.
The caucus also called on security agencies to take notice of an open letter written by a former governor of the state now Senator, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu (PDP, Nasarawa-West) to the lawmakers, which the PDP viewed as amounting to "a public incitement to violence".
