People these days have absolutely no regard for human life. A triple
shooting in the Detroit area that left a toddler dead on
Tuesday allegedly was revenge for another shooting in
April that left three people wounded outside of a
nightclub.
Witnesses say two children were playing in a yard in
Inkster, Mich., when the suspected gunman walked up
to them.
The gunman then shot 2-year-old Kamiya French at
point-blank range before firing multiple shots at her
father and a 12-year-old girl, the Detroit Free Press
reports.
Kamiya, who would have turned 3 next week, was
pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Her father, 34-year-old Kenneth French, and the older
girl, who is a relative, remain in the hospital but are
expected to be fine.
Raymone Bernard Jackson, 24, was arrested at his
girlfriend's house Thursday and charged with first
degree premeditated murder, assault with intent to
murder, felony assault, felon in possession of a firearm
and torture, according to WXYZ-TV.
He is being held without bail and is due in court July 16.
A second suspect has been arrested and is being
questioned, Michigan State Police say.
"The first coward's in custody. Anybody that feels that
they can execute a child in the state of Michigan, we're
going to go after them with everything that we can," Lt.
Michael Shaw told the Free Press.
However, Shaw does not believe this was a retaliatory
shooting over the April incident.
"I wouldn't call it retaliation. Retaliation for what? Take
somebody's life away for retaliation? I mean, just to
mention that as part of a motive is silliness to me," the
police spokesman said.
"I can't wrap my head around anything that would make
me want to walk up to a small child sitting next to a
porch, point a pistol at their head, and shoot them
dead," Shaw said. "I can't give you a motive. I can't
wrap my head around that."
